Day 03 ~ (22nd July 2006 - Saturday ) - ASCENDING
Breakfast. Pick up at hotel lobby at 0730 hours then depart on 2hrs, 90km / 55ml drive across the spectacular Crocker Range to the ecologically unique environs of Mt Kinabalu. Upon arrival, registered and meet your Mountain Guide. Transfer to Timpohon Gate (1,830m / 6,000ft) to begin the trek with your Mountain Guide. This take about 5-7 hours, with time out to look at the views, birds, animals, soils and rocks of the various vegetation zones up to Laban Rata Resthouse. (3,290m / 10,700ft). Overnight at Gunting Lagadan. (Breakfast / Packed Lunch / Dinner)

Day 04 - (23rd July 2006 - Sunday) -- FINAL ASCEND/DESCEND/PORING HOT SPRING
Begin final ascent at 3am to greet the dawn at the summit (6 am). The stupendous views to be had at 4,096.2m / 13,432 ft before the clouds rise is well worth the previous day's exertions; on a clear day, one could almost see all of Sabah. Breakfast at the Resthouse before descending to Timpohon Gate to transfer to Park HQ for lunch. Proceed to Poring Hot Spring, enjoying the sightseeing of 1500 ft above sea level and a canopy walkway 30ft above forest floor. Return to Kota Kinabalu in the late afternoon and transfer to hotel then have dinner at Sri Melaka Restaurant. Overnight at Promenade hotel. (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner provided)

this is the peak agenda of our trip. i did a lot of reading, preparation to climb it & alhamdulillah we made it. this is also the time i get to test my energy/stamina level (after 3 years to the gym kann). abaden its not the same. i may be able to control my breathing & its like i still have the energy to climb. Still the final ascend requires the most skill. not to mention every single attire that u put on plays an important role. as for me kasut licin laa thus seeing me menggelongsor tak tau la berapa kali. i thank god for his will we made it safe & sound up & down without an accident.

while climbing up i was huffing, panting for breath then the final ascend tuh plak shivering, yet trying to hold myself still. but when u get to see the entire scenery its speechless moment. even kumira pun cannot capture the moment as it is still dark & the chillness level mak datuk even my 4 layer of clothing + the jacket pun cannot tahan baahhh!

while climbing down la jugaks i nearly loss my darling kumira. the camera tuh satu hal laahh, the pics i have inside that i treasured most or else this kk trip will be meaningless. sume kat dalam tuuu. zillion thanks to juru (our guide) who willingly ran up (not kidding mcm kambing gurun depa nih naik turun mcm takde apa jek) to look for the kumira while we continued with our journey down.

when he managed to catch us he told me its nowhere to be seen. masa tu tuhan jek yg tau how i felt deep inside. trus menangis mencurah-curah nih cant be bothered bout others dah. trus jek turun tuh mcm takde brek dah sib baik tak terseliuh kaa apa kaa. sampai naik heran laa mat salleh nih dok toleh2 looking at me for what reason la perampon nih nangish katanya ayaakk!

little that i know my team mates are playing a fool on me kununnya teaching me a lesson tak pandai jaga harta katanya monyet tul! neway, a very gud lesson never will it happen again insyallah!

this is a very gud challenge both mentally & physically. its best to have some sort of training at least up and down the hill so u've got the taste of it rather than buta2 naik. oohh yaa nausea & headache tablets is a must to avoid altitute sickness as the higher u go the temperature differs & yur body may not be able to endure it. i myself while climbing up was having mixed feelings. sungguh 1/2 way thru i felt like crying, then i sang, then i talked to myself, then mengaji god knows what else. reason being i left my team behind bout 10 mins apart is i cant keep up with their climbing method. that is why i'd rather go at my pace.

we started the climb at 11.30 am & reached laban rata at 6.30pm, started the peak climb (the next day) at 2.30 am & down by 6 am and descended from laban rata at 8 am & reached timpohon gate at 1.30 pm. if i were given an option in the near future to climb it again insyaallah why not but this time around i'll be more prepared.

now i am suffering muscle tightness mcm nak putuih urat kentut pun adaaa adoooiii!! thanks kinabalu 4 the challenges! i'll climb u again for sure!
